Boys Varsity Track, Girls Varsity Track · Novi Boys Upend Brighton

The Novi Track team hosted the Brighton Bulldogs on Thursday, in contrarian warm temperatures and a robust crosswind. The Boys won, 73-64, against a team that promises to be serious contenders for the league title. The Girls owned the Field Events but did not fare as well on the track, losing the meet 36-101.

Sprinters Nisarg Dharia and Sean Pitcher starred for the Wildcats, going 1-2 in both the 100 Meters (won by Pitcher) and 200 Meters (won by Dharia). Pitcher and Dharia were also part of both winning Sprint Relays, joined by Leon Chen and Brian You in the 4×100 and Chen and Brendan Ireland in the 4×200. Gabe Mudel won the 1600 Meters and later clinched victory for Novi by winning the 3200 Meters.

Long Jumper Blair Mayes used his third jump to overtake the top Bulldog by a quarter inch and win the event. You outdueled two Brighton hurdlers, and won the 110M High Hurdles by four hundredths of a second. Jordon Castleberry won the Discus Throw, and the 4×800 Meter Relay team of Dallas Foley, Miles Brown, Blake Maday, and Nate Wood started the meet with a solid win against strong competition from the Bulldogs.

Wood and Brown came back to score three important points each in the middle-of-the-meet middle distance events. Wood was just edged out for the win in the 400 Meters while Brown showed great competitiveness to chase down Brighton’s Matt Jontz in the 800 Meters. Josh Brucker lost a tie-breaking jump-off and so placed 2nd in the Pole Vault.

Cecile Steck won both throwing events for the Girls, Hannah Hood-Blaxill won the High Jump, Ashley Jamison won the Pole Vault and Freshman Elizabeth Babcock won the Long Jump to complete the Field Event sweep for Novi. Katherine Ray won the 3200 Meters.
