The Novi Boys Cross Country Team started the championship season with a bang, earning the 2nd of two team trophies awarded at the Oakland County Meet. About 40 teams competed at the O-Co, held at Kensington Metropark on Saturday. Senior Gabe Mudel won the race in 15:51 and was crowned Oakland County Champion.
Junior Trey Mullins and Sophomore Matt Whyte were awarded medals and All-County status for finishing in the top 30. In all, seventeen Wildcats set a personal-best on the tough course, despite above-average temperatures: Jason Aurilia, Prateek Bhola, Ryan Cornellier, Matt Gustitus, Brian Han, Divyesh Hariram, Connor Harte, Luke Horsburgh, Andrew Kaempfer, Bryan Kaempfer, Ethan Kopel, Sean Lee, Ian Masterson, Mudel, Jonathon Wang, Whyte, and Marvin Wu.
The ‘Cats put up two commendable performances this week after a two-week hiatus, and the presumably-plausible prognosticators reinstated them into their Michigan Top 15 rankings – this time at their highest ranking yet, #9.
The #9 Wildcats will race Northville on Tuesday. The Mustangs also had a successful weekend, defeating previous #5 Salem.
