Saline High School
Novi hosted defending Division 1 State Champion Saline (currently ranked #6 in the most recent coaches poll) last Saturday at Meadows Stadium and in a very evenly matched game, came away with a 3-1 win over the Hornets. Saline scored first with about 16 minutes left in the first half when Sydney Jarvela’s corner kick hit the upper crossbar and came right to teammate Allison Luurtsema who managed to slip the ball past Novi goalkeeper Aastha Dharia. Novi was able to tie the score about ten minutes later, when senior Chloe Allen took a pass from fellow senior Katrina Koomen and beat the Saline goalkeeper. Early in the second half, Novi’s Jessie Halmaghi got the game winner when freshmen Julia Stadtherr found an open Halmaghi just past midfield who collected the ball, beat the Saline defense a slid a perfect shot past the diving Hornet keeper to the back post. Novi would add one more goal with just over 11 minutes to play when Halmaghi would get another breakaway, but this time would be taken down in the box by a Saline defender which would result in a Novi penalty kick. Chloe Allen stepped up an scored the penalty kick putting Novi up 3 to 1. Dharia ended up with 4 saves for the Wildcats as they improved their overall record to 8-1-5 (6-1-2 KLAA Central). Saline dropped to 8-4-1 overall.
