Northville High School
The Wildcats opened up play in the KLAA Central Division on Friday night by hosting the Northville Mustangs at Meadows Stadium. As is usually the case when these two teams match up, it was a very competitive and evenly played match. Both teams created a couple of nice scoring opportunities in the first half, but neither team could capitalize on their chances, thus leaving the score 0-0 at halftime.
In the second half both teams came out looking for that first goal and it was Novi that would strike first, when senior Katrina Koomen blasted a free kick from 20 yards out around the Mustang wall and right by the diving Northville goal keeper. Novi would add to their lead 7 minutes later when Koomen sent a ball into the Mustang penalty area that the Mustang goal keeper would punch away, however, it would come right to Novi freshmen, Jessie Bandyk, who would volley the ball into the net for her first career goal, putting Novi up 2-0. Each team would get a few more scoring opportunities over the last 15 minutes of the game, but neither team would add to the score board.
The Wildcat defense lead by senior Katrina Koomen, junior Jacalyn Schubring, sophomore Riely Schultz and freshmen Lauren Calhoun did a great job all night keeping the Mustangs off the score board. Novi improves their record to 2-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the KLAA Central division. Noviâs next game is this Tuesday, when they travel to Salem to take on the host Rocks.
Great job Wildcats!!!
